History

The Canadian Association for Social Work Education – Association Canadienne pour la formation en travail social (CASWE-ACFTS) is a private, not-for-profit, charitable association.  Founded in 1967, the CASWE-ACFTS was established to create a permanent, national body to plan, coordinate and assess social work education across Canada.  The creation of the CASWE-ACTFS reflected a growing need for social work faculties, departments, and modules to have a forum to advance Canadian social work education both nationally and internationally, and to address social work education issues specific to the Canadian context.  Activities include the development and implementation of national educational policies and standards, the accreditation of social work programs in Canada, the promotion of scholarly work, and the provision of public commentary on social work education matters.
