President’s message

Welcome to our exciting new website presenting information about CASWE-ACFTS in an accessible and appealing format. Read about the purpose of CASWE-ACFTS; keep abreast of the activities of the Board of Directors and the Commission of Accreditation; learn about the work of the Committees and Caucuses; note the periodic press releases; and, most importantly, find out how to become involved with the work of CASWE-ACFTS.

It is fitting that the ‘official’ launch of the web site is just one month after our very successful conference and AGM held in Victoria, B.C. For several days the social work education community came together to discuss common issues, present excellent scholarship, collaborate with each other, and strengthen the potential of our organization. The 2013/2014 action plan approved at the AGM is posted here for your information. Working groups will soon be finalized and the members of the Board of Directors look forward to working with you to reach the goals identified in this plan. Other information from the AGM and the conference will be posted as soon as they are translated. These include

  • A presentation by the President entitled Navigating the shifting space: The intersection of social work education and regulation.
  • A position statement from the Thunderbird Nesting Circle asserting eight points and calling upon CASWE-ACFTS to strengthen our accreditation standards as they relate to indigenous knowledge and practices.
  • A presentation by Anne Marie, a MSW student who did her field placement within the National Office, entitled: A comparative analysis of various competency based documents.
  •  A motion brought forward from the Deans and Directors and unanimously approved by the membership of CASWE-ACFTS that re-affirms “the autonomy of university social work programs to determine the content and delivery of their curricula and the recruitment, qualifications and responsibilities of their faculty”.

This is your organization: keep up to date with what is happening; contact us with your concerns and issues; work with us to develop press releases; get involved with a working group, a committee, a caucus. Help CASWE-ACFTS flourish and grow.
