Call for Members: Women’s Caucus

The Women’s Caucus invites dedicated women who are committed to prioritizing women’s issues, experiences, and voices within academic spaces. The Caucus focuses on examining gender dynamics and advancing feminist practices and praxis, with an emphasis on critically engaging with gender-based issues rooted in patriarchal structures that disproportionately and adversely affect women.

Members are expected to demonstrate critical reflexivity and to work respectfully in alignment with the values and mission of CASWE-ACFTS. This includes sharing opinions respectfully and collaborating constructively with other members. Members are also expected to actively participate in dialogue with other CASWE groups and in critical discourse concerning women’s rights and issues within Social Work education. Special emphasis will be placed on recognizing, amplifying, and meaningfully integrating women’s voices, knowledge, and lived experiences in classroom and academic settings.

Members who demonstrate a strong commitment to the goals of the caucus may have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of a paper examining critical feminism and feminist practice and praxis in Social Work.

We are keen to hear from faculty, staff, and BSW, MSW, or PhD student members alike. Members of CASWE interested in joining the Women’s Caucus are encouraged to contact CASWE’s Social Justice and Research Coordinator, Jilefack Amin Ngami at research@caswe-acfts.ca or one of the caucus co-chairs Bridget Marsdin at marsdib@mcmaster.ca and Elizabeth Patrick at elizabethpatrick2@gmail.com for further information.

Individuals who are not currently members of CASWE but wish to join the Women’s Caucus may also inquire about becoming a member. The call will remain open until all vacancies have been filled.
